Koala Tea (Quality)

Koala Tea (Quality)

Materials:

I used Red Heart Super Saver yarn for everything except the light grey koala, that was in Vanna’s Choice.  However both yarns worked up the same, Vanna’s choice slightly smaller but not enough to make a difference for the pattern.

Hook: E 3.5mm
PolyFil
Needle to weave in ends

Gauge:  Not important, just make sure your stitches are tight enough that you can’t see the stuffing.

Tea Cup

This will be worked in continuous rounds.

6 sc in a magic ring.  [6]
Inc in each stitch. [12]
(sc, inc in next stitch) repeat around [18]
(sc in next 2 stitches, inc in next st) repeat around [24]
(sc in next 3 stitches, inc in next st)  repeat around [30]
(sc in next 4 stitches, inc in next st) repeat around [36]
Sc in all stitches for 5 rounds.

Fasten off

Cup Handle

This will be worked in continuous rounds.

6 sc in a magic ring [6]
Sc in all stitches for 7 rounds
(dec) repeat around [3]

Fasten off sew up hole and attach to cup.  I tend to leave a long tail so that I can sew one end of the cup on, then bring the yarn up through the stitches on the inside of the cup and sew the other end on.

Tea Bag (white)

Chain 4, turn
Sc in 2nd chain from hook, sc in remaining two stitches [3], Chain 1 and turn
Sc in all three stitches, Chain 1 turn
Sc in all three stitches, Chain 1 turn
Sc3tog [1]
Chain 3
Fasten off and leave a tail to sew onto cup.

Koala (grey)

This will be worked in continuous rounds

6 sc in a magic ring.  [6]
Inc in each stitch. [12]
(sc, inc in next stitch) repeat around [18]
(sc in next 2 stitches, inc in next st) repeat around [24]
(sc in next 3 stitches, inc in next st)  repeat around [30]
(sc in next 4 stitches, inc in next st) repeat around [36]
(sc in next 5 stitches, inc in next st) repeat around [42]
(sc in next 6 stitches, inc in next st) repeat around [48]
Sc in all stitches for 5 rounds
(sc in next 6 stitches, dec) repeat around [42]
(sc in next 5 stitches, dec) repeat around [36]
(sc in next 4 stitches, dec) repeat around [30]
(sc in next 3 stitches, dec) repeat around [24]
(sc in next 2 stitches, dec) repeat around [18]
(sc in next 1 stitch, dec) repeat around [12]
Stuff
(dec) around [6]

Fasten off.  I leave a long tail so that I can use it to attach the koala to the cup.  When I am ready to sew the koala in the cup, I close the hole, pull the tail up through the middle back and then stitch inside the cup and the koala all the way around.

Ears

Make two ears in white

6 sc in a magic ring [6]  Do Not Join, Chain 1 and turn
Inc in each stitch [12] Chain 1 and turn
(sc, inc in next stitch) [18]
Fasten Off

Make two ears in grey.  Follow the same pattern as the white ears, but don’t fasten off.  Instead chain 1, line up both ears and pass your hook through both colors and single crochet.  Do this along the whole ear and then fasten off.

Nose

Chain 4
Sc in 2nd chain from hook, Sc in next stitch, 3sc in next stitch.  Keep going along the back side of the foundation chain.  Sc in next stitch, Sc in last stitch
2sc in first stitch (inc), Sc in next stitch, Sc in next stitch, 2sc (incs) in the next 3 stitches.  Sc crochet in next stitch and then a slip stitch to finish it off.  Fasten off.

Eyes

I like to do a basic black eye with a white highlight

6 sc in a magic ring, join and fasten off
Add white highlight using regular white yarn.

Sew all the pieces on to your liking and viola you have a quality koala tea.

Enjoy.

Please contact me if you have any questions or find any errors with the pattern.

Thanks!!
